ADVANCED CLASS: DRAWING FASHION FIGURES

Hi sew lover

So one of the classes that we are going to taking in this year’s e-training program in TheQEffectz Advanced Class is How to Draw fashion figures. We all know that in this part of our world, a fashion designer isn’t really a fashion designer until he or she is able to create and illustrate his or her own fashion idea. But unfortunately, not everyone is good at drawing, right?

You may have a fashion idea or style in your head but when it comes to illustrating it through croquises or fashion figures, you wonder where to begin.

Well, the truth is, you do not have to be an excellent artist to pull off a good croquis. All you need is the sheer will to practice it and to keep practicing it until you get better at it. Everything perfect requires time and effort.

So how about I help you a little bit with that, huh?.

HOW TO DRAW A FASHION FIGURE

First of all, as a beginner, all you need are just the basic drawing tools.i.e pencil, eraser, sharpener and a pose in mind. Don’t get to all those sophisticated poses yet. Just try basic poses like straight poses.

Then make up your mind that why doing this, you are allowed to make mistakes…after all that’s why you have an eraser 😉. Don’t bother about getting it right the first time… Just set your mind at ease and be focused on having fun while at it. If possible, turn up a music!

So to illustrate today’s fashion figure, we are going to start with a basic pose- Straight pose with both arms on the hip.

STEP 1: Begin by drawing faintly, 11 circles…. vertically along each other like this

STEP 2: At the center of the second circle, draw a horizontal line. This line is going to represent our neck

STEP 3: Draw another horizontal line at the fourth circle. This will be our waist

STEP 4: Draw a horizontal line between the fifth and sixth circle. this will be our hip. Because hips are generally larger than waists or necks, the line should be a bit longer than the others.

So we have the standard body levels all illustrated in our array of circles.

Now it is time to get busy.

STEP 5: From the first circle which is obviously our head, draw two curve lines using the circle as a guide to our very first horizontal line as shown below.

STEP 6: Then from the end of our neck line, draw a box to the waist line as shown

Repeat the process from the waist to hip line as shown

STEP 7: At the middle of our sixth circle, make a crotch as shown

STEP 8: In order to get our thighs and knees, draw two circles at the bottom of our hip line as shown

Do the same for the 8th circle as shown above

STEP 9: Then connect the thighs to the knees.

STEP 10: Repeat the process for the feet. Remember nothing mus be perfect. So if you drew a terrible feet, its okay….

STEP 11: Next, we’ll proceed to our arms. Just like the feet, we’ll insert circles at the places we want our biceps and elbows as well as wrists to be.

Then all we simply have to do is connect these parts together as shown

STEP 12: When satisfied with how your croquis looks, clean off the circles and retrace again. This time, include breasts….lolx after all you are creating a female croquis.

Then retrace more fervently the other parts of the body that may have wiped off while cleaning off the circles.

When done, your completed croquis should look like this:

STEP 13: Now that you’ve completed your croquis, this is where you imagination takes the lead. Highlight the fashion idea you have in your head on your croquis.

Shade if you are not a fan of colors

Or add colors, patterns or designs to your croquis.

And you are done!

Easy piecey!

So you can see that drawing a croquis or fashion figure isn’t as difficult as it looks. All you have to do is to keep practicing. In TheQEffectz E-training program March-July 2018 session, we are going to be helping you find your way around it; to be able to create more and more designs using your own templates.
