Hi Sewlovers!
Okay, so I stumbled on an Instagram page last night @rumahkaftancitra and almost lost my breath. You can also go check it out.
It was a page full of female caftans made and designed by Rumah Kaftan Citra, an online Kaftan Shop based in Jakartan Indonesia(Read more about them here)

What was most fascinating and jaw-dropping about these trends of Caftan was how versatile they were. They could literally be made into any design and style, e.g jumpsuits, pants, short outfits, e.t.c
Now as you all know, I love bogus dresses. I don’t know why, but I just do. Maybe it’s because I’m not that curvy to show off anything behind my dresses so I’ve always been a big fan of Caftans. So when I saw images of how possible it was to redesign them into anything, I couldn’t stop salivating. I wanted one immediately.
For those who do not know what Kaftans are, well here is a brief detail about them.

What are Kaftans?

Caftans also known as kaftans according to Wikipedia, are variants of robes or tunics, versions of which have been worn by several cultures around the world for thousands of years. The kaftan is often worn as a coat or overdress, usually reaching to the ankles, with long sleeves. It can be made of wool, cashmere, silk, or cotton, and may be worn with a sash. The caftan is of ancient Mesopotamian origin, and was worn by many middle-eastern ethnic groups.
Through its dissemination and evolution, the kaftan has acquired different styles, purposes, and names depending on the culture. In many regions with a warm climate, the kaftan is worn as a light-weight, loose-fitting garment. The kaftan has served as a symbol of royalty in some cultures.
Now, I’m sure by now we all know the purpose of showing off these inspirations(see other style inspirations here). It is for you to try and make a caftan this weekend. And please o, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram @theqeffectz and I’ll make sure to repost them.
Caftans are generally the most easiest outfits to make. What however makes them seem difficult, is the embellishment around the necklines, body and waist. Besides these, sewing a caftan is actually very easy.

Maybe after our three months Sew project on Men outfit, I’ll make and perhaps design one for myself and of course show you guys how it is done. Maybe. This will depend largely on how many requests I get regarding this. So if you want us to do a tutorial on one of these outfits, please leave your interest on the comment box below. No comment, No tutorial. 😋
