Hi sew lovers!
Welcome to the last tutorial for the year 2016:
How to make a padded off-shoulder six pieces dress.

As much as I’m happy to take a break from all the hard-work(because believe me you guys, it’s not easy preparing tutorials, especially using pictures and illustrations. If you guys know how much is involved, you will always leave comments to encourage me. You will not simply visit and disappear. You’ll drop a thought. When I don’t see your comments, I get discouraged. There was even this one time, I told my fiance that I didn’t want to do this anymore.

“People don’t comment. How do I know they like the tutorials?” I cried to him. “How do I know I’m teaching the right things if they don’t tell me?”.
Anyway, this is one of the reasons I feel so lucky to have him, because he would remind me why I started this in the first place. It isn’t to get praise from you guys, but to empower you, inspire and motivate you to be all you can be. However, a comment now and then would have been nice though. 😀 So please always leave a comment on our comment box).

About Six Pieces Dress

Six Pieces dress as earlier explained in How to make a six pieces dress pattern part 1 and 2, is an outfit/dress that involves creating a flare slightly above the knee or hip, by dividing the garment into six parts. It is popularly worn by women all around Nigeria as can be seen in weddings, parties and events e.t.c. It is currently one of the famous fashion styles worn around the world (read more about a Six pieces dress, here).

So on this tutorial, I’m going to be showing you via pictures and demonstrations how to sew one using the Division method(See here to download the tutorial on how to cut out the six pieces dress using the Division method).

1. Six Pieces Dress Pattern:If you are a beginner, I’ll insist you purchase the pattern-tutorial from our shop, here).

2. Body statistics: Measure out all the details of your body including but not limited to the following:
a. Shoulder Length
b. Bust
c. Upper bust
d. Under bust
f. Hip
g, off shoulder length: This is gotten by placing your measuring tape off the shoulder.
h. Body Length i.e the distance between the shoulder and the waist
i. Half-Length i.e the distance between the shoulder and ‘Above knee’
j. Full length

3. Fabric of choice and lining (if necessary): Your fabric of choice should be about 4 yards (depending on your hip statistics and how wide you want the flare of your dress to be) and the lining yards should be 3 yards. The fabric I used was a gift from my mother, so I can’t really say how much it costs.

4. Breast pads: There are different types of breast pads: the soft, mid-soft and hard. I used the mid-soft. They cost about N150 a yard.

5. Matching zipper: Your zipper should be about 18-21 inches long

6. Bias: I purchased about two yards of them.

7. Measuring tape and scissors

8. Tailor chalk and ball pins

9. Sewing machine & matching thread

10. Presing iron

11. Electricity.
